As an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Stastny has had extensive training in dental, oral and facial surgical procedures. He is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. His training includes four years at the University of Louisville, School of Dentistry. He then completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center in Louisville, which included rotations on general anesthesia and general medicine. His Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency was completed at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. This four-year program included rotations on general anesthesia, general surgery, plastic surgery, intensive care unit, emergency room, general medicine and the trauma team. In addition to functioning as a resident on each of these rotations, the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residents also functioned as the ENT residents for the hospital during their four years of training.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons require extensive training in the treatment of dento-facial deformities, facial trauma and reconstructive surgery, which gives them the foundation for Facial Cosmetic Surgery.
In addition to his residency training, Dr. Stastny received advanced training in Facial Cosmetic Surgery with T. William Evans, DDS, MD, MSc over a period of three years. Dr. Evans expertise has proven so valuable to the specialty that the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation has granted money to pay for a Fellow to train with him every year.
